This morning we dropped the van off at the garage again and went to a pancake breakfast put on by the Lions Club in memory of Kevin Klein's father, who died about 6 weeks ago at the age of 65. It will help the town pool fund, as he was a very civic-minded man. Kevin is the assistant fire chief; in the earlier photo he's wearing the red shirt.

We met his mother and saw some other people we had already met. What a great group of folks! Also, the locally made sausage was the best I've eaten. Unfortunately, the man who makes it had gone away for the weekend so we couldn't get any to take with us. After spending time in the library (it's air conditioned and very welcoming) between laundry duties, we went to check on the van. Lo and behold, it was fixed! After a nice conversation with Mark Johnson, the garage owner, we went back to the park to get our stuff.

It was very hot so we turned on the AC, only to find that the fan didn't work. Mark had given us his cell number (bet he'll rethink that next time), so a phone call later we met him at our second home, the garage. After some tinkering with wires it worked, and we were on our way! As we left town, and finally got past the place we originally turned back, we tooted the horn in celebration. Or tried to. Yes, the horn doesn't work now, but we are not mean enough to call Mark again. Even super nice and conscientious guys like Mark and Ira deserve a day off. Our advice to all of you is this- if you have to have car trouble, do it in Hallock, MN. The town folk will take good care of you till it's fixed. We drove through northern MN, past fields of ripening wheat

and fields being hayed.

You can see the lingering result of the rainy weeks just past on many of the crops. Hopefully it will stay dry for a while and they will recover. We are camped at Zippel Bay State Park, on Lake of the Woods, in farthest north MN. We are in a lovely birch forest.

Right now the skeeters and the flies are prodigious. Bill confirmed this when he fixed the horn. Yes, we're tooting our horn again.
