Burned Brakes

July 8

We stopped for one last picture before leaving the Peace Garden, and then we drove for what seemed forever.

The prairie was it's usual beautiful self and the day was pretty. We stopped for lunch and to use the wifi in Cavalier, ND. Here's a picture of their town bell with a time capsule under it, to be opened in 2079.

We crossed into MN and all was well until the van began to sound like it had a flat tire. What was actually wrong was that one of the brake calipers was stuck, and by the time we back-tracked a couple of miles to the town of Hallock, smoke was coming out of it. We found the local mechanic who works on brakes, and he will fix it tomorrow, when the part comes in. Hopefully that will work as well as it did in Whitehorse with the radiator.

We walked to the bank and food market and spent an hour or so with some of the local firemen. Here's a picture of Bill and the gang.

What a nice group of guys! (seems that most firemen we talk to are nice- there's something in that, I think) They have nice equipment and a Rescue vehicle to die for.

After swapping stories we walked back to Horseshoe Park, where we are camped.

It's a municipal park near the center of town and is very nice with lots of lawn and trees. The flower garden surrounding the sign is even shaped like a horseshoe.

Near the park is a farm vehicle dealer. Now this is a tractor! Is there a road in NH it would fit on?
