We leave!

Saturday May 1-

We left Amherst about 1/2 hour past our self appointed time of noon.  The morning went fast.  We loaded food and cl clothing into the van and without any spare room, everything fit.   I mowed the lawn to leave it short, turned off the hot water heaters, unplugged unnecessary appliances and placed two lights on timers in different windows and set a clock radio to go on at two different times to make it seem like the house was sort of inhabited.   Closed and locked the doors and drove out of the driveway at 12:30 saying good bye to a beautiful spring day in Amherst.

The odometer read exactly 109000 and the fuel tank was just under half.  Our first stop was in Manchester for a quick bite at Burger King and then fueled up at $2.799/gal.  Only could put in 25.5 gallons because the credit car max was $75 and the pump shut off.  The fuel gauge read "full" so off we went a bit poorer.

Stopped at our family house in Hanover to inspect what was left after a 2 yr tenant left.  The tenant was to have vacated on April 30, but she was still there and it seemed most of their stuff was still there too spread out in the basement and porch.   The inside of the house looked OK but it needs some paint and care.  Showed the place to a prospective new tenant and he seemed to like it despite the presence of the old tenant and her "stuff."

Stopped at Walmart in West Lebanon to pick up some stuff we forgot such as pajamas for bill and a small tea kettle for the stove.   We then drove over to Woodstock VT to see our cousins Deb and John Gravel.  We had drinks and munchies on their porch and then bar-b-que'd swordfish for dinner and had a great evening
.

We ramped up the rear wheels of the Roadtrek to level her out and slept in her for the first time.   We hit the sack about 10pm.  I had a comfortable and full sleep, while Candace was hot, then cold, and up twice.  We woke up at 8am and Candace went into the house to shower and I stayed and typed this.  We'll get more used to it as time goes on.   Sorting out a functioning system will take a little practice.
